As a young girl, ballet was extremely important to me. Despite my “tom boyish” attitude (most likely from years of taekwondo) I was (and remain) obsessed with the grace of ballet, the elegant costumes, and intricate music. Unfortunately, by my sophomore year in high school, I was so overwhelmed with school work, music, and sports, that there was no time for another nutcracker performance or spring dance. Even so, I’ve remained very loyal to this ethereal sport. I still own all my shoes, flowy skirts, and medals. Sometimes I even throw them on, sit in my room, and enjoy the feel of the wooden toe and airy skirts. Though I’ve had to give it up as an everyday thing, I’ve found that the idea of ballet costumes in everyday life is extremely inspiring and possible. I’ve even put together an ensemble myself! Happy Friday!
